Yuqi Wang

Yuqi Wang is a Chinese artist currently based in Munich. She completed her foundational studies in Environmental Art Design at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in China, and later pursued advanced studies in Urban Design at the Bauhaus University in Germany. Her academic training emphasizes not only the cultivation of artistic thinking and aesthetic judgment but also the integration of creative expression into the practice of environmental aesthetics.

During her time living in Berlin, the city’s free, expressive, and vibrant artistic atmosphere profoundly influenced her creative approach. Through participation in open portraits groups and life drawing workshops, she deepened her understanding of emotional exchange within the creative process. Yuqi Wang is particularly skilled at capturing the subtle interplay of light and shadow on the human body, using layered and contrasting color language to transform form and emotion into a compelling visual narrative. Her work not only reveals physical structure through the interaction of color and contour but also, through the dynamic relationship between light and color, conveys emotional undercurrents hidden beneath the surface. After moving to Munich, she created a monochromatic series centered on living organisms. Attached by her personal experience with a major illness, this body of work captures the fragile yet resilient essence of life, reflecting profound contemplation on the dimension of existence.

In the recent time, her practice has gradually taken on surrealist qualities, establishing a poetic and somewhat uncanny aesthetic balance between the detailed brushwork of classical realism and a cinematic, dreamlike atmosphere. She works adeptly with mixed media, including soft pastels, acrylics, watercolors, pencils, and charcoal, to capture delicate emotional moments in her figures and to construct subtle connections between living beings and their settings. Through a thoughtful and deliberate creative process, Yuqi Wang carefully weaves deep emotional resonance into each composition, inviting viewers into a visual world where reality and dreams gently intertwine.
